Horizon Full Explanation of Programs
Drills and Skills is designed to help players advance their skills in the off-season, better prepare them for school ball, improve their social skills, build team skills, and be more diligent in disciplines on and off the court. These teams do not have games but rather focus their efforts on practices.
Short Season Winter runs from late October through January (approx. 8-10 weeks) for 12-14u and runs from December through February for 15u-18u teams. Short Season Spring runs from February to March (approx. 6 weeks). This program is designed to help players advance their skills in the off-season as well as help them learn to work with other players with different skill sets. Teams will compete in 2 tournaments that we will host in our area. Short Season is a great way for athletes who play spring or winter sports to participate in club volleyball without it interfering with their other sport.
Long Season is a more local and affordable option than travel season. Athletes will build skills, techniques, and multiple forms of offensive and defensive play. This season runs from late October through February for 12-14u, and from December through late February for 15u-18u. These athletes will attend 4 tournaments, 3 of which are local and hosted by Horizon.
Travel Season is for more advanced players to build skills, techniques, and multiple forms of defensive and offensive play. This season runs from late November to March. These players will be learning to discipline themselves in furthering their health and desire to play ball at the collegiate level. In this program, players will travel to 4 2-day tournaments testing their strength and ability as a team and as an individual. Players will be taught to be more diligent in their discipline on and off the court.
Boys Season is a travel team geared towards our 15-18u male athletes. This is for new and old players who want to build skills, techniques, and multiple forms of defensive and offensive play. This season runs from November through February, and athletes will compete in at least 1 tournament in Sevierville (other possible tournaments TBD).
Positive Qualities of Horizon
- One-on-one instruction. In high school, you have 2 or 3 coaches for a 20+ member team. At Horizon, we have 2-3 coaches for teams of 10 players.
- Exposure to more advanced play.
- Positive and advanced skills building.
- Players coming from surrounding schools to come together as one team.
- Develop lifelong relationships outside of school
- Exposure to college recruiters.
How Tryouts Work
Please check our age qualification chart to see what age group your athlete falls in (see registration page). When you get the date and time of your tryout, please come early enough to sign in, get a photo taken, and put on your gear. Evaluations will last 2 hours and our coaches will have the athletes go through a series of drills to assess what team will fit them best.
Practices
Practices will be held at the Civic Center unless otherwise notified (128 Civic Center Drive, Corbin, KY). All teams will be offered at least two 2-hour practices a week during their season, barring exceptional circumstances.
Tournaments
Tournaments will begin in January and end in March or the beginning of April. The administrative committee will choose tournaments and will post them on TeamApp as soon as we schedule them. We usually do not know the layout or game times of the tournament until the week of. Parents are responsible for minors during tournaments. The coaches are not responsible for anything other than on-court activity.
Insurance
Horizon Volleyball Club is a part of the Pioneer Region USAV. USAV provides secondary insurance to all players and coaches during practices and tournaments. This is why you sign up on the USAV website and fill out medical waivers, etc.
